our current kernel does does boot ok on G4 systems (PowerMac, Pegasos2),
but it locksup early (before the atyfb init) on a G3 ibook, no idea where
exactly.

gcc33 hammer as shipped with SLES9 works ok, gcc-4_0-branch works ok,
gcc-4_1-branch does not boot.
cant test gcc-mainline because make does not like the configure result.

it does appearently also depend on the used kernel .config and/or the used
patches.
kernel compiled with gcc-4_1-branch did boot ok with a plain 2.6.16-rc4.

right now I have a tree that shows the bug.
