our current kernel does does boot ok on G4 systems (PowerMac, Pegasos2), but it locksup early (before the atyfb init) on a G3 ibook, no idea where exactly.
gcc33 hammer as shipped with SLES9 works ok, gcc-4_0-branch works ok, gcc-4_1-branch does not boot. cant test gcc-mainline because make does not like the configure result. it does appearently also depend on the used kernel .config and/or the used patches. kernel compiled with gcc-4_1-branch did boot ok with a plain 2.6.16-rc4. right now I have a tree that shows the bug. Details later. -- Summary: ppc32 kernel miscompiled Product: gcc Version: 4.1.0 Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: c AssignedTo: unassigned at gcc dot gnu dot org ReportedBy: olh at suse dot de GCC build triplet: powerpc-linux GCC host triplet: powerpc-linux GCC target triplet: powerpc-linux http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=26432
