This sounds like a latent bug really. The change does affect the EH table (diff attached). Hacking the assembler output for stdexcept, I find that it's the following reference that causes the error: .word L$FB0940 This symbol is a local alias for _ZNSt12domain_errorD0Ev. This symbol also occurs in functexcept.o which occurs earlier in the link list. So, it looks as if the linker can't handle absolute references to local code symbols in the second and subsequent instances of a function.
