as i have said, i need a compilation error on such casts. 4.2 has a nice -Werror=foo feature, but this PR is about 4.1. if you don't plan to backport -Werror=foo feature to 4.1 i'll close this PR with suitable comment. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=21948
