The GCC policy is to fix only regressions in released GCC versions (i.e. 4.2.x
and 4.1.x) and not backporting other fixes. (Which has the advantage that we
can concentrate on fixing bugs in 4.3.0.)

You could try the current GCC 4.3.0 gfortran; binaries are available from:
  http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/GFortranBinaries
Disclaimer: As these are the nightly builds of the developer version, they may
not always work; however, in my experience they do work to 99.9% and especially
gfortran contains many fixes (and enhancements).
