Since almost every last EDG developer is also a member of the ISO C++ Core Committee (and vice versa), I feel pretty sure EDG, ICC, and GCC are wrong.
Remember, compilation does not guarantee code is correct; it only guarantees something happened. So, if you can find the point in the Standard which makes the sample code well formed, I'd love to know about it. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=33409
