While the configure explicitely lists armeb, the very same thing happens for
arm(el), fwiw.
Does perhaps one of -m{arch,abi}=iwmmxt imply -fshort-enums ?-- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=34205
