The current Inf/NAN I/O support is broken. Given a namelist input 

 &nl
 foo = 5,
 infinity1 = 1,
 /

where foo is an array of 2 reals, we need to unget up to 8 chars (infinity).
If it can't be done with the current runtime support, we should revert revision
130708.
