I kept them due to precaution but ultimately they shouldn't be needed for install-info itself, yes. Will test how this works out with MAKEINFO=/bin/false and an old makeinfo before i attach a complete patch. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=27516
