This is the patch mentioned in comment 0. This patch touches some areas that Janne is doing. My thought is to apply this to 4.4.1 to regain some of the 4.3 performance back. I want to wait until branching so I do not interfere with what Janne is doing at the moment which is fairly intrusive and will probably go into 4.5 -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=38654
