-march=core2 is required to generate sahf. There are targets (generic k8) that die with SIGILL when they execute 0x9e opcode. Look for lahf_lm in /proc/cpuinfo. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=43733
