This is a common occurence for me. It isn't specific to Solaris 2.9, it also occurs on 2.10. I don't think it is x86 specific but I don't remember. Might be nice to add /usr/ccs/bin to path or somesuch. Yeah yeah, I can do it myself. This is with 4.5.0. Doing a native build. $ /home/jkrell/src/gcc-4.5.0/configure -without-gnu-ld -with-ld=/usr/ccs/bin/ld -without-gnu-as -with-as=/usr/ccs/bin/as -disable-nls -verbose -disable-bootstrap -prefix=/home/jkrell/i386 Thanks, - Jay -- Summary: building gcc doesn't find Sun ar Product: gcc Version: 4.5.0 Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: c AssignedTo: unassigned at gcc dot gnu dot org ReportedBy: jay dot krell at cornell dot edu GCC build triplet: i386-pc-solaris2.10 GCC host triplet: i386-pc-solaris2.10 GCC target triplet: i386-pc-solaris2.10 http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=44057
