I don't think the warning is bogus.
z_stream d_stream; /* decompression stream */
d_stream.zalloc = (alloc_func) 0;

inflateInit2 (&d_stream, -MAX_WBITS);
inflate (&d_stream, Z_NO_FLUSH);
we don't check for an error of inflateInit2 in which case state is
not initialized.
