I had done some further investigate at that time and found that this happened when the machine didn't have /usr/bin/jar installed, so instead of using libjava/scripts/jar, an installed version of fastjar (from gcc 4.1) was used. This seems to lead to a version of tools.zip that causes jc1 to ICE as reported. I haven't investigated in more detail since, though. Rainer
