Heh.  I just had an actual user who wanted to make use of -V; because in the
build system he was working in, the compiler name 'gcc' was hardcoded
everywhere, but he could add options via environment variables, so
'gcc-VERSION'
was no option, but '-V VERSION' would have been possible, except of course,
that it isn't anymore ;-)

Well, too bad, I guess.
