I don't think it is just a memory hog; compiler probably enters some kind of infinite loop. Tested on 4.9.2, 4.9.3 and 5.2.0. Command line to reproduce is "x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -m32 -O2 -floop-interchange -c fram_gen.c". It only happens when using this specific combination of flags (32-bit mode, O2 and loop interchange enabled).
