The diagnostics stuff in gcc7 seem a bit overkill when the real issue is just the translation of "error" and "warning" A commandline flag that forcesg gcc to call setenv("LANG", "1", 1) would be the easy solution. But I do not know if it would have maintainance sideeffects.
