Any sense of a minimal patch to fix this issue? I have embedded systems in the
wild suffering from this rather critical issue. Upgrading to a new compiler
version means updating the entire system...
(I am curious how this kind of wide-ranging bug could get past rudimentary unit
testing, but that is a topic for another day-- probably a day when I volunteer
to write those tests I guess.)
