A x86_64-apple-darwin11.4.2 bootstrap with that patch applied is into stage 2 now, so it does indeed seem to fix the bug. However, I had the patch in my common tree and x86_64-pc-linux-gnu bootstraps break badly with many comparison failures. Reverting just that patch allows them to finish.
