This doesn't belong into a single project's configury, IMO: as you
wrote, many different projects are affected.  If at all, a workaround
belongs into the AC_LN_S macro of some future release of autoconf.
However, even if this were done, it would take quite a while until the
affected projects were upgraded to use that.

Nothing, I'd say: with coreutils 8.31, you managed to install a version
of ln that's effectively unusable on Solaris 10.  I'd claim there's no
point to try and detect/workaround this: the only sensible solution for
those few people affected is to either backout coreutils 8.31 or use a
locally patched version.
