With a slightly modified testcase:
unsigned short a;

int
main ()
{
  register unsigned long long y = 0;
  int x = __builtin_add_overflow (y, (unsigned char) 0, &a);
  if (x)
    __builtin_abort ();
  return 0;
}
the wrong-code started with r10-3989-gdeb254e029c9430a0c3d0cb044e4ca7b3f15b619
And as PR93348 has been fixed in 9/8 too, I believe all we have remaining is a
wrong-code on the trunk.
