Mine.
forwprop/gimple_fold should change:
iftmp.1_6 = BIT_FIELD_REF <a, 8, 0>;
into
VIEW_CONVERT_EXPR <a>;
That will help slightly. But then the next step would be disconnect a from VCE
here.
