It would be possible for us to pass it down in the same way we make assumptions
about gas, if e.g. when building ld was bfd, or if -fuse-ld=bfd was passed, but
I don't intend on working on that and I don't think it's that important.
I agree it's really a doc issue for now. Could maybe be a feature request for
when we know we've got bfd.
