Following Andrew's OK in comment #4, I am closing this PR as fixed.
I am a tad nervous about not adding a test case to check that it remains fixed.
However, in order to prevent further boat in the testsuite, I will put my trust
in whichever patch fixed this having an appropriate fix. Howl at me if you
think that this is wrong!
