Well, there were unresolved comments about possibly being able to use $(shell) or $(firstword) to escape more characters. So if it's a design choice not to do so, it might still make sense to update the comment in the patch to discuss those escaping techniques, what characters they work for and why they're not used, retest and repost. -- Joseph S.
