I think this should be reverted, the issues fixed, and only then the
correct change applied.
I'll revert. But I think I need to step away from the MIPS stuff. While
I'm trying to help, I'm far enough away from MIPS that I can't really
assert what the right change should be when there's disagreement with
any degree of confidence.
