The discussion is becoming to technical for me. Let me just say that adding --build=%m-apple-darwin`uname -r|cut -f1 -d.` to config allowed me to build gcc without further glitch.
I guess it will do no harm to keep this addition even if it becomes no longer necessary. Thanks for the help Dominique
