I also get this problem.  I use gentoo and I avoid loading unnecessary
apps.  Gentoo also considers iwlist and the like to be administrative
in function, so they are in /usr/sbin .

With these apps installed in the 'right' place, the console gets
flooded w/ logs...

Fixes:
 * gears should look in sbin dirs
 * gears should check once on a given page for apps (not repeatedly
calling if not found)
 * gears should definitely eat up console output...

IIRR gears tries to use both to get a better estimate.
