Exactly as the subject line says, Google Gears 0.5.33.0 breaks Gmail in Firefox 3.5.5
It get's caught in a loop reloading itself infinitely. Disable Gears and have access to Gmail again. Unfortunately, I now have no offline access (in case the server goes down at work).
