It does seem interesting that most major browsers (including IE) support HTML5 offline storage but not yet Chrome. I guess that's part of their reasoning for delaying the support of HTML5 instead of gears for their applications:
"Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, IE8: HTML5 localStorage; these modern browsers all support the core localStorage functionality defined in the HTML5 draft." Come on Google.
