Goniurosaurus lichtenfelderi at some point was considered murphyi, luii and araneus (someoen correct me, i think i might be wrong)

Goniurosaurus lichtenfelderi lichtenfelderi is now murphyi, much differnt than luii ora araneus
Goniurosaurus lichtenfelderi hainanensis are araneus now.

Those two you got me were taken off Hainan about 4 years ago, as juvies. I was told they were Goniurosaurus lichtenfelderi hainanensis (araneus), but looked way too dark to be so.

Subject: [Gecko] classification of Goniurosaurus

Hi,

I am new to this board and have a few questions about the classification of Goniurosaurus lichtenfelderi hainanensis. First off, I believe the name litchtenfelderi was changed to murphyi in 2000 by Grismer. If this is correct, shouldn’t they be classified as Goniurosaurus murphyi hainanensis ?

My second question is if Goniurosaurus lichtenfelderi lichtenfelderi is the same as G. Murphyi (formerly lichentenfelderi) and Goniurosaurus Murphyi is just a shorter version of saying (spelling it)

To my knowledge G. Murphyi is black with white bands. G. M. hainanensis looks similar to G. Araneus. Anyone know of any distinct differences between Goniurosaurus Murphy (lichtenfelderi) hainanensis and Goniurosaurus araneus such as scale counts or something?

Sorry if I sound confusing but I am trying to get all the classifications of this genesus correct. I think the current “official” is that G. lichtenfelderi should be called G. Murphyi since the name change. Let me know what you think. Hope I made it clear.

Thanks,

Erik
