Hi Jason,

Your instincts are good. Pet shops, for the most part, and not real good at keeping geckos and it shows.  Shop around for a reputable breeder, and get references. I have been doing the mail order shipping for nine years as a breeder with a very low fatality rate.  Some folks are also better at shipping that others. Make sure the breeder has a live arrival guarantee, and that they educate you properly on the care of the gecko.  This customer education aspect is better with mail order folks than at reptile shows. Newbies, not knowing any better, will buy a gecko or some other kind of reptile at a reptile show, get no instructions, and end up with a dead or sick reptile as a result. This happens far too often and reflects badly on the business as a whole. Not all of us are like that, and those folks are easy to avoid now that you know what to look for! :)

Enjoy your new gecko(s)!

Does anyone know of any leopard gecko breeders in Massachusetts, or closely surounding states? So far all I have been able to find is one local shop, and a petco, but neither seems very good. Also has anyone tried ordering them online? How do you know if you will get a healthy gecko, and will the shipping hurt/stress them heavily?
