Another plus of being in Northern California--wine country, is that
lots of people have wine shipping boxes--thick, with wine bottle
shaped indentations (good for shipping small critters, or carving a
bit and shipping larger)...so there's another kind you could be on
the lookout for.

I lucked out the other day and had a lady call me offereing me
medical insulated, cardboard covered shipping boxes. These are ideal
for shipping Phelsuma due to the thickness of the insulation - they
are about 10x9x7 in size. She, like many living in Northern
California, is very recycle-conscious and could not bear the thought
of putting these in our local landfill. I believe these are for
insulin, so check your local resources people! Know anyone with
medical needs? You may get free shipping boxes. Most places that
sell fish will also give you their boxes if they are not jerks (some
folks will want $).
