Apparently, an exception is raised which you do not catch.
If you mean with 3 tuple a ternary tuple and with 8 tuple an 8-ary tuple, then: why should that work? Provided you are using a TupleSet and not a DFA (which you dont tell us). The arity of the tuple set must coincide with the number of variables when posting an extensional constraint using tuple sets. The documentation makes that plain (common sense does that too).
