I tried this with an old gschem. When you hit the apply button nothing
happens, but when you place the component in the schematic, the gschem
window is raised and the component selector is sent to the background.
It's not like I described before.

I think that hiding the component selector is a good thing, thus the
user can see the schematic when placing the symbol.

Use gtk_widget_hide(GTK_WIDGET(dialog)) with the component selector
dialog.
