gEDA: question about gschem o_select_object()

can someone who is more enlightened in the ways of gschem internals give 
me an idea as to how one can tell if you have selected an element vs a 
net vs an attribute in gschem/noweb/o_select.nw:o_select_object()?

I was adding a "component selected" and "net selected" hook, and thats 
my last stumbling block.
