Umm, the problem here isn't the definition of the space bar = "new page".  The
problem is that the space bar is the same as the 1st mouse button (or "pick"
or "select" button if you will) and pressing the space bar is the same as 
pressing
the "new page" button on the toolbar.  The solution would then be in how to
cause the default selected button on the toolbar be the "arrow" or "select" 
button
that is located at the far right of the toolbar (and is normally the default in 
any
other CAD program I've ever used).  And schematic drafting is just a special 
form
of CAD drafting!

Note that at present, not having dug deeply in the configuration files for gEDA 
yet,
my solution is to hit the right arrow on the keyboard till the arrow toolbar 
button has
the little highlight box on it.  Somewhat of a pain, but it works till I figure 
out how to
reset my defaults to what I want.
