... a fork from DJ's "more insanity and documentation" thread. I've made a custom symbol, but I can't figure out how to get at it through gEDA.
I've put a "gafrc" and "gschemrc" files in my ~/.gEDA directory,

---<directory contents>---
[EMAIL PROTECTED] .gEDA]$ ls
gafrc gschem-dialog-geometry gschem-recent-files TMS280{8,9}.symdef
gafrc~ gschemrc symbols
---</directory contents>---

both of which contain
---<file contents>---
(component-library "./symbols")
---</file contents>---

And the 'symbols' directory contains the symbol file, 'TMS280{8,9}.sym'. A 'local' entry shows up (new since creating the gafrc/gschemrc files, I think) under the 'Libraries' tab of the 'Select Component' dialog box, but no symbols are in it. I'm sure it's something that will take five seconds to fix, but I've spent a couple of days hunting the answer!

Thanks in advance...

Looks like it found it. I make them both pretty much identical,
because tools usually read one or the other but not both.

My goal is to set up a component symbol and footprint libraries off of my home directory.

This is what I do; I point to my gedasymbols working directory.

Impressive job on the 0603's! I've put some thought to making an LED matrix like that, but OLED displays are getting cheaper (~$20 @ Digikey).

I've played with the oleds too (see the alarm clock project) but at
the moment I'm in a "let's see what we can do with this pod" mode. My
next module will be a JTAG interface for a CPLD, not that I have any
need for a CPLD, but they're only a dollar at digikey.
