Strictly FYI for those who want to play with these chips... Digikey still has a number of the startkits in stock; the small chips are only $50 for the whole kit. These are the same type of boards I use for gcc development. Search for "Rensas SKP" then narrow it down to items in stock; the r8c and m16c ones are $50 and the m32c one is $154.
