OK, thanks. I put the -f in there and also did a "cvs update". No happiness, however. I still get this error:

However, I looked into the .deps directory, adn there is no hid subdirectory. I am always confused by this GNU .deps stuff. How do the .deps get built? Why isn't .deps/hid/whatever created? Hmmmm, I wonder if I shouldn't have checked out an entirely new CVS directory? That is, is the stuff in the sf CVS directory complete?
