Hi, Image loader now supports threads in the latest SVN. That should improve loading speed on SMP machines, fix the GUI freezes on large tiff files and improve the GUI response time in general.
This feature is still experimental and thus must be explicitely enabled by configure --enable threads (or autogen.sh --enable-threads) Please test. I would like to know if you notice any (positive or negative) change.
