*Jakarta.* The eldest daughter of media magnate Hary Tanoesoedibjo was
appointed deputy tourism and creative economy minister on Friday, with
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo assigning her the special task of luring
more foreign visitors to Indonesia.

Angela Herliani Tanoesoedibjo, 32, is the only woman and the youngest among
the 12 deputy ministers introduced by Jokowi at the State Palace in Central
Jakarta.

"She is young, with experience in the media business, and very good at
promotions, so we have placed our trust in her to become deputy tourism and
creative economy minister," the president told reporters when introducing
Angela.

"We hope tourism promotion will be more focused and the number of tourists
coming to Indonesia will be increasing," he added.

Angela, born in Ottawa, Canada, on April 23, 1987, is also the youngest
person in Jokowi's new cabinet. She is deputy secretary general of her
father's Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo), but failed to win a seat in the
House of Representatives in the April legislative election.

"I have experience in the media and other fields, such as retail business
and finance, and this background will hopefully help me work creatively,
quickly and efficiently with a big impact," she said.

Jokowi has asked her to focus on the 10 new tourist destinations the
government is currently developing in various parts of the archipelago.
Angela confirmed that she would resign from all her posts in her father's
MNC Group.

"For sure, according to existing regulations, I must resign from all
positions in the MNC Group," the mother of two said.

Angela graduated from the University of Technology Sydney and obtained a
master's degree in commerce and finance from the University of New South
Wales.

She received more than 30,000 votes in her East Java electoral district in
the legislative election. However, Perindo still failed to reach the
legislative threshold.

She served as managing director of television networks Global and RCTI, and
as a commissioner at investment firm MNC Investama.
