I think two hours is resonable amount of time with gem5.opt. You can use
gem5.fast to go faster. Since gem5 is currently a single threaded process,
so the number of cores on the machine on which you running gem5, does not
matter as such.

Sorry for the bump up, but could someone please help me regarding the large
boot-up time in X86_FS mode ? The place where it seems to get stuck for a
long time is:
ACPI: Core revision 20070126
ACPI Exception (tbxface-0618): AE_NO_ACPI_TABLES, While loading namespace
from ACPI tables [20070126]
ACPI: Unable to load the System Description Tables
.. followed by another long wait time after this line: Using local APIC
timer interrupts.
Any thoughts ?

Hi,
Anyone has any thoughts on the time taken to boot X86_FS with detailed
mode ? It is currently taking me almost 2 hours. Whereas, alpha_fs is much
faster.. about 10 minutes. Is this the expected behavior ? Also, as
mentioned in my previous email, I am running the simulation on a server
that has over 32GB RAM and about 24 cores.
Any ideas on how I could improve the boot time ?

Ankita

Hi,
I am trying to boot the pre-built 2.6.22.9 linux binary available from
the download page with X86_FS in detailed mode using the following
commandline:
# build/X86_FS/gem5.opt config/example/fs.py -d --caches --l2cache
It takes about 2hrs for the system to boot-up ? Is this expected with
x86_fs ? However, the non-detailed boot is pretty fast. With ALPHA_FS, even
the detailed mode boot is quite fast. Anything I need to change in my
configuration ?
Thanks for your help!
