There is a "max_insts_any_thread" available in the CPU models... If you want it on the command line, you have to add the option to your configuration script. There is an example in the configs/example/se.py in the development repository (m5-dev) that has "--max_insts" available on the command line.
Note that CPU parameters can be viewed in "src/cpu/BaseCPU.py" (Wouldnt it be nice to view this info. from the command line? Sort of like an extended help menu type thing).
