Hi all , With referring to the topic booting Gentoo stage 3 linux file system in Alpha Architecture, I manage to solve the problem by following the step as explained below and I want to share with other M5 simulator users :
After extracting the Gentoo stage 3 image and copy to the disk image, follow the steps below : The files */etc/fstab*, */sbin/init, /etc/init.d/rcS* , */etc/inittab* of the Gentoo stage 3 linux filesystem is replaced by the files */etc/fstab*, */sbin/init, /etc/init.d/rcS* , */etc/inittab* which is available in the given disk image provided by the M5 simulator . In addition to that, two binary files in the disk image provided by the M5 simulator*, /sbin/m5* and *sbin/getty* are also copied to the new disk image with Gentoo linux file system to the directory */sbin*. Then the M5 simulator should be able to boot the disk image with the Gentoo stage 3 image. -- ONG WEN JIAN Student Department of Computer and Communication Systems Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia 43400 UPM Serdang, Selangor Darul Ehsan Tel : 014 - 930 2150 / 017 - 613 6231
