Hi folks, I have a question about the the performance difference between SE and FS modes. I applied the same Alpha binary "omnetpp (spec_cpu_2k6)" to the single-core configuration in SE and FS modes respectively, and the configurations (e.g., caches, memory) are basically the same in these two modes. When I observed the final results, I found the console outputs originated from "omnetpp" itself were correct, but the performances between SE and FS modes are quite different. The L2 accesses per 1k instructions in the FS mode is about 22, while that in the SE mode is above 90.
There is no big difference in other SPEC CPU benchmarks using the same experimental setups. I am wondering what kind of reasons may account for such a huge discrepancy for omnetpp. I would appreciate if you could provide your valuable comments! Thanks, Leonard -- Give our ability to our work, but our genius to our life!
