To boot Linux from the Windows bootloader you need to:
1: If LILO is on mbr, move it to your linux boot partition
2: Use the following command to save the boot sector to a file:
"dd if=/dev/hdx of=bootsect.lnx bytes=512 count=1"
replace /dev/hdx with your linux boot partition.
example: dd if=/dev/hda of=bootsect.lnx bytes=512 count=1
in some version of dd you have to use a switch other then "bytes", in that 
case just find the right switch for read lenght (512 is the number of bytes 
to be read)
3. Simply copy the bootsect.lnx file to your c: drive, and add a line 
c:\bootsect.lnx="linux" to the boot.ini
Works on mine like a charm
