I've noticed that an occasional WalMart has a knowledgeable computer person in the department. Many don't, so don't plan on getting technical questions answered there.
Might be an opening for us to make contact with the WalMart stores in our area and offer to answer questions for newbies. Went to a meeting of the Association of PC Users Groups a few years back and one speaker was a WalMart employee who had moved up to charge of electronics and was up to speed. I'm glad to hear that the upper level is a bit better informed than the average store. Seems sad to me the Linux community is so easily distracted into bashing those who see a bit differently from my point of view. I hope our policy of disagreeing politely when we disagree can become more widespread. Years ago I attended a rather specialized symposium at which a professor with a thick accent had all manner of diagrams that the rest of us were trying to decipher. About 20 minutes into the presentation, a certain Dane well known in the field and as a character tiptoed to the blackboard behind the speaker and made a few changes in a diagram or two. The speaker noticed the audience looking elsewhere and turned around. The Dane said, "I have taken the liberty of making a few corrections to your diagrams." The speaker looked for a minute, got a scowl on his face, and replied, "No, the other way was right." Our Dan gave a look of great sadness and said, "Then I am afraid that I am totally unable to agree with you." At which point most of the audience went to look for coffee, since the only one in the audience who seemed to understand the talk didn't buy it. No nasty words. I think I got much more out of the conversation over coffee than from the talk.
