This is too reply David Jacksons question about a Open Source/ Linux Group on campus at LSU.
Your question comes at a very good moment. Aaron Daly and Myself (both ar computer science students at LSU) are in the final processes of getting a student organization approved on campus at LSU. If any of you are familiar with the campus, and the instructors in the Computer Science department, you will be keen to know that Malcolm Macnaylor will be our faculty advisor, and is eager to help us on our path towards making a Linux group successful at LSU. The success of development oriented organizations at LSU has allready been solidified by a student organization known as the SVGA (student video game alliance). They participate in the design and implimentation of video games, and practice towards developing an educational forum for the practice at LSU. We intend to follow that same schema at LSU with our linux group, tentatively titled LAluL. (LAluL is the Association of Linux Users at LSU) Yes, it is a recursive title. Our intent will be towards pushing the further use of Linux in the academic realm, and providing access towards development tools, support, and friendly interactions. We intend to take on at least one university-wide open source project at all active times for as long as the organization exists. For more information, please email myself at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or Aaron Daly at [EMAIL PROTECTED] . use a subject line that we will recognize and we'll respond as soon as possible. I also keep an active view of this board, and will gladly reply to posts and the like. We're looking forward to working with you guys at the BRlug and we hope that our presence in the community will be a driving force for open source and the linux lifestyle.
