Heavy Metal rocks.  Ralph Baski is the animator who made stuff like "Fritz
the Cat", "Wizards", and "Lord of the Rings" (not the children's version).

I was really into alot of his stuff while I "experimented" in high school,
and still equally enjoy his work today.  It's quite different, so if you're
not familiar, it's a coin toss if you would like it or not.  I guess that's
why it has the cult status. ;)

This one has an awesome sound track, though the plot is kinda out there
involving aliens, alternate reality...  And the main character's voice over
is John Candy...
