Adam, I didn't think about the latency for a streaming audio server, so I agree with your point that it wouldn't be useful for a real-time presentation.
However, VoIP requires lots of bandwidth, especially for a conference call. I don't know that much about VoIP, so I don't know if the voice quality and bandwidth used can be tweaked. Has anyone used TeamSpeak (http://www.goteamspeak.com) for a large group of people (~24+)? I see there is a Linux client. Or, perhaps the audio should just be one-way from the presenter to the audience. Questions back to the presenter could be handled via IM or IRC. Does anyone know of a open source voice communication app that is easy on bandwidth in a conference call situation? Or perhaps something more like streamcasting without the latency?
